08-05-24 First Day Mt Rainier Backpacking Trip - Pretrip:
Five eager gals (in two vehicles) drove up to Mt Rainier National Park to backpack a small semi loop from the Westside Road, up and over Emerald Ridge, and back down to Longmire. It took about an hour waiting in line to arrive at the Nisqually entrance.
Shoehorn and I arrived first and we were able to get a permit for Lake George and Devil's Dream. Walking around the Cougar Rock Campground before dinner, we visited the amphitheater and then we were stopped in our tracks with our first view of a Tesla truck. The thing was humongous.
The nice lady let us have a look at it and filled us in on their adventures. They are touring all the National Parks and only had 11 parks to go. She was originally from the Philippines, proud of being 71 years old, and they reside in Florida when they're not travelling. But the Tesla! Wow, what a monster of a truck.
