08-08-24 Fourth and Last Day Mt Rainier Backpacking Trip:
Total stats for the day:
Mileage: 6 miles
Elevation: 552 ft elevation gain, 2,635 ft elevation drop
We had forgotten to take a pic of our campsite before we packed away our tents, so the gals pulled a Twinkle Toes moment and got an even better pic!
This was the last day of our trip and one could say it was the easiest, but we had a long downhill of 2,635 ft, had to find our way across Kautz Creek, and then pick up the car at Westside parking area. The air was a little smokier but we easily arrived at Kautz Creek without mishap.
The trail is still washed out from two years ago and we had to hunt for the best place to cross. There were numerous day runners coming through and they didn't bother looking for a way across, they just motored right through the water without stopping. Well, we found a lovely log that extended over far enough to leap over the rest of the way of the creek. Happy us!
Every time one has a water crossing, you have some sort of uphill to get back to higher ground. Finally arrived in Longmire, retrieved second car and headed home. Can't wait to visit Mt Rainier National Park again!
