08-06-24 Second Day Mt Rainier Backpacking Trip:
Total stats for the day:
Mileage: 8.39 miles
Elevation: 2,736 ft elevation gain for the day.
The morning was filled with excitement as all five of us piled into one vehicle and headed up the Westside Road to the "Trailhead". We had to walk the road for 3.5 miles before we arrived at the trailhead for Lake George and Gobbler's Knob.
Lake George is off the Wonderland Trail but what a gorgeous place to spend the night.
Plus it is the starting point to hike up to Gobbler's Knob and includes a 360° fire lookout with incredible views. We felt so lucky that there was little smoke to hamper our views of Rainier.
We could only reserve an individual campsite at the lake and we were delighted to see that site 3 was spacious enough for five tents.
Several gals enjoyed a dip in the lake. Most other campers were women, we counted nine for the individual sites.
