08-06-22 Wonderland Trail:
Resupply day at Sunrise! Packed up quickly and flew up 1,837 vertical feet to Sunrise (packs were empty of food) and was greeted by people and cars everywhere.
There are several places around the mountain that one can either mail or deliver their resupplies - Longmire, Sunrise, and Mowich. We had two resupplies that were personally delivered by Karen and Jay two weeks prior to our start date to Sunrise and Mowich. Our first resupply was quick and easy. We had hoped to buy cheeseburgers as a treat but alas, the cafe line was closed. Stopped in at the Information Center and ogled at the 3D model of Rainier, the Wonderland Trail, and other hikes around the mountain.
Continued to the Sunrise Camp where we squeezed in our three tents and swatted mosquitoes and biting flies for the rest of the afternoon. Saw our first bear at Sunrise who was munching grass about three hundred feet away.
The ranger stopped by to ensure that we used the bear boxes to store our food. A very busy place as day hikers passed by through sunset. The outhouse was very stinky here. So far this was our least favorite campsite. Not many pics today due to short mileage and resupply time.
