08-11-22 Wonderland Trail:
As you know, fog has a tendency to cover everything with a thin layer of moisture. Imagine our surprise when we woke up on Day 9 and everything inside and out was dry. The clouds had parted last night and a slight breeze dried everything out.

Today was our second resupply at Mowich Lake. There were a lot of people there camping and dayhiking. We found the patrol cabin where our resupply was stored and set about refilling food bags and swapping battery packs.

We were wondering if we could refill a resupply bucket with unused stuff/foods, and lo and behold a ranger came up the walkway and immensely helped us out by not only saying yes, but that she would drive our bucket around to the east side (White River, which is close to Sunrise) for pickup after our hike. Amazing! Thank you, ranger! So when backpacking long distance, one can only carry so much clothing so clothes frequently get dunked in water and hung to dry. As Jayne was vigorously rinsing a certain undergarment in Mowich Lake, imagine her shock and surprise when they flew away from her fingers and landed out of her reach and started floating away. She had her waterproof boots on so she dashed back to her pack, changed into her Teva sandals, and dashed back into the lake to find them. Meanwhile Karen and I looked for it on the other side of the huge culvert where the creek was running down the hill. Yay, Jayne found it in the lake outlet before the culvert and all was good. After all that excitement we packed up and headed downhill (descent was 2,740 feet) to our next campsite at South Mowich River Camp. The forest getting there was one of the most beautiful ones I've ever seen.

Karen was so happy that this bridge was in that she had to give it a special kiss!

As we chose our camp at South Mowich, we were surprised at the damage to site 3 as it was crushed by huge logs blown over from last winter. So we chose site 2. Water was very far away as we were surrounded by glacier water which is too silty to filter. So glad I brought my 2 oz day pack to haul my water containers back to camp.
